Two-book giveaway for the Advent season.

Christmas Uncut: What Really Happened and Why It Really Matters… by Carl Laferton

“This is a great book for people who think they know the Christmas story, and for those who know that they don’t. It’s both creative and historical, simple and insightful, fresh and faithful. It’s a great book, and I hope it is widely read and used.”
– Kevin DeYoung, Pastor, University Reformed Church, East Lansing, MI

“An accessible, faithful guide to the actual Christmas story. Let this book help you get to grips with the reality and purpose of Christmas, and introduce you to the person who is at the center of it all.”
– Trevin Wax, author, Counterfeit Gospels and Holy Subversion; Gospel Coalition blogger; Managing Editor, The Gospel Project

Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem by Kevin DeYoung9781433533389m

“Busy, hectic lives are the bane of the modern world. This book is not profound; rather it simply offers a lot of that most unfashionable commodity—common sense. DeYoung exposes the nature of busyness, the various ways in which it deludes us, and offers some basic advice on what to do about it. A fine, short book which deserves a wide readership.”
– Carl Trueman, Paul Woolley Professor of Church History, Westminster Theological Seminary

Apollo 11, the first man to step on the moon, July 20, 1969.

Neil Armstrong.

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

I was excited, and when I saw the print on the surface of the moon–that was real.

And that is the reason why I am an amateur astronomer.

Very Powerful

The Power of His Rising: South Asia (Dispatches from the Front Episode 6)884501893077m

We prayed for Bangladesh yesterday using Operation World and watched a powerful video on the people of this nation. As we watched cows, goats and sheep being slaughtered we should not forget the one final and perfect offering of Christ on the cross. His one sacrificed is contrasted to the many offering made by priests in the Old Testament (Hebrews 10). It was bloody as hundreds, thousands of animals were slaughtered for an atonement that cannot clean the consciences of sinful Israelites. They stood before the altar but Christ after the completion of his work of redemption sat at the right hand of God. It is truly finished, There is forgiveness of sin.

Rhythms of Grace

How the Church’s Worship Tells the Story of the Gospel by Mike Cosper

“I have read and heard preached a ton on the reality that ‘all of life is worship.’ It is and I wouldn’t want to argue that point, but what about when the covenant people of God gather together? Are there not some ways God desires us to worship corporately that can differ from how we worship in ‘all of life’? Mike has served the church well with Rhythms of Grace. I was both convicted and compelled as I read it.”

– Matt Chandler, Lead Pastor, The Village Church; President, Acts 29 Church Planting Network; author, The Explicit Gospel

“Mike Cosper is uniquely gifted as both a musician and a pastor to speak into the culture where art and church meet and mesh. This is an important book for folks thinking about what it is to be a musician, a worship leader, and everything in between. The historic question of how we worship on Sunday and with our lives is an important one to keep asking because the songs we sing have the power to shape who we are and who we will become as individuals and as a community.”

– Sandra McCracken, singer-songwriter

“Mike’s Rhythms of Grace was like sitting across the table from someone you need to be listening to. In this season of the Church, there is some confusion on why and what a worship leader is and does. This book brings great clarity to that confusion. As someone who aims to see song leaders become worship leaders and worship leaders become worship pastors, I found this to be a key read. This will be an important piece in training new leaders, and a great reminder to more seasoned leaders, to sing the gospel and above all, highlight Jesus.”

– Charlie Hall, Worship and arts director, Frontline Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Glimpses of Grace

Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home by Gloria Furman

“I know no one who is leveraging her everyday life more for the glory of God than Gloria Furman. I want to learn about God and grace from people who live it and fight to do so. I’ve seen my friend do both beautifully. Gloria has taken the bigness of God and laid him into the cracks of the mundane, and somehow the mundane starts to feel big.”

– Jennie Allen, author, Stuck: The Places We Get Stuck and the God Who Sets Us Free

“This is sustaining grace, this is the desired haven: to know his steadfast love that saves and keeps us. Glimpses of Grace is not a how-to. It is a true friend’s invitation to see and know the Lord’s steadfast love displayed in every wave, big and small. Gloria offers encouragement rooted in her personal experience and wisdom from saints who have weathered the storms decades and even centuries before us. May you catch glimpses of his steadfast love and find an anchor for your soul.”

– Lauren Chandler, writer; speaker; singer; wife of Matt Chandler, The Village Church, Flower Mound, Texas

“Gloria is real! She’s going to tell you about the smell of her kitchen floor and the steadfast love of her Savior. Jonathan Edwards is right in there with peanut butter sandwiches and sprinkles. The grace this book shows us is no vague idea; it’s the biblical gospel infusing the stuff of life—the daily life of a homemaker. Strongly, humbly, and winsomely, this book calls homemakers (and all of us) to walk in faith, connecting with the visible and the invisible.”

– Kathleen Nielson, Director of Women’s Initiatives, The Gospel Coalition

“Glimpses of Grace is a beautiful picture of what it looks like to see Jesus Christ every day in every circumstance. Our friend Gloria takes the glories of Christ’s life and opens our eyes to their realities in the seemingly mundane circumstances of our lives. She builds a longing to know more of God and to believe that he is present in all of our work as mothers and wives. Her passion for missions and joy in God is contagious. We are excited to recommend this book to anybody wanting to see the ultimate reality of satisfaction in Christ alone for every day of your life.”

– Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson, authors, Give Them Grace
