Advent Giveaway
Two-book giveaway for the Advent season.
Christmas Uncut: What Really Happened and Why It Really Matters… by Carl Laferton
“This is a great book for people who think they know the Christmas story, and for those who know that they don’t. It’s both creative and historical, simple and insightful, fresh and faithful. It’s a great book, and I hope it is widely read and used.”
– Kevin DeYoung, Pastor, University Reformed Church, East Lansing, MI
“An accessible, faithful guide to the actual Christmas story. Let this book help you get to grips with the reality and purpose of Christmas, and introduce you to the person who is at the center of it all.”
– Trevin Wax, author, Counterfeit Gospels and Holy Subversion; Gospel Coalition blogger; Managing Editor, The Gospel Project
Published by Good Book Company, 2012
Retail: $3.99
Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem by Kevin DeYoung
“Busy, hectic lives are the bane of the modern world. This book is not profound; rather it simply offers a lot of that most unfashionable commodity—common sense. DeYoung exposes the nature of busyness, the various ways in which it deludes us, and offers some basic advice on what to do about it. A fine, short book which deserves a wide readership.”
– Carl Trueman, Paul Woolley Professor of Church History, Westminster Theological Seminary
Published by Crossway Books, 2013
Retail: $11.99

Improperly… But would want to know a Christ-centered approach.
We keep an advent wreath and light a candle each Sunday in advent. We started last year but didn’t get to light the Christ candle for some reason. Determined to do it this time around. 🙂 Oh, and we also have an “old”-ish wooden box on our coffee table downstairs to remind us of the manger where the greatest gift to mankind was once laid. 🙂
Happy Advent!
hmmm… i guess, meaninglessly, i simply go with the festivities around, although personally, the advent season cheers me up, it reminds me of “The Word who took on flesh and dwelt amongst us ” 😀
Rush and cramming gift-buying, “crazy busy” too?
proof of the need for the book 😛
usually for me every “special days or seasons” are just normal days in which I always think of “what can I be productive with this day?”, but by God’s grace, through the continuous renewing of my mind through the preached Word, this time I’m going to start to observe the advent season with remembrance and worship to our Lord Jesus Christ. 🙂 “Crazy Busy” will really help me boksu, I hope I get this one!haha
wow these are good books, needed by CQC for sure hehehe! 😀
Since I’m married to the guy who wrote this, we pretty much have the same answer so I’m copying & pasting his answer here! Haha

Oh, this year, we bought a multi-colored capiz shell parol and put it up outside our home. 😀
We do not have any tradition except to be enjoying a meal together.
We would put up the tree together and some Christmas decors around the house, without Santa, of course. Have family dinners together while listening to classical Christmas tunes and reflecting on the reason why Jesus came to earth for us over a nice cup of joe.
UCC or Starbucks?
spend time with friends and family remembering God’s goodness throughout the year.
By thanking, praising, and worshipping God! 🙂
My most busiest season of the year. Distributing gifts to bank and paint clients, friends etc., planning and evaluating bank matters. Attending occasions and parties. But now since Sheiny is about to give birth this month, looking forward to see our baby girl “Sophia Charis”
by reading up on advent 😀 nice article from TGC http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgcworship/2013/11/26/why-celebrate-advent/
We have our traditional exchange gift at home and we eat a looooooooooot. => hehe
This year’s advent season, I and my lovely wife resolved to follow John Piper’s advent devotional. Placed a simple 2D manger scene at the centerstage of the church’s sanctuary and did away with the many other “christmas decor”. Will be organizing a “family altar” before dec. 25. 🙂
May God’s amazing gift of love be treasured in our hearts!
Having quality bonding time with family.ü
attanding Christmas eve service and eat with family
