Codex Sinaiticus

Codex Sinaiticus is one of the most important books in the world. Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of outstanding importance for the history of the Bible and the manuscript - the oldest substantial book to survive Antiquity - is of supreme importance for the history of the book.

Christ, a Samurai?

In a New York Times article featured last February 10, a Mr. Akinsiku, has written “graphic” novel entitled “The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation.” This is an innovation to reach to Manga enthusiasts.

According to Mr. Akinsiku: “For the unchurched, the book is to show that this thing, the Bible, is still relevant because it talks about what human beings do when they encounter God.”

So what do you think of the Manga Bible?

The ESV Again

I still endorse the use of the ESV for serious Bible study and personal devotion. Get a copy and see for yourself. You may try reading it at the ESV website.

And the ESV tops it

My students made a survey of some relatively new English Bible versions based on readbility, reliability (trustworthiness), relevance and accuracy. And according to them, the ESV got top marks in three categories, with the NLT also making it in the easy reading category and NASB still getting high marks with accuraccy. The NIV is still coming in strong, however with the TNIV having been introduced, this could affect the rating…

The ESV, since its publication in 2001 has not been quite accepted yet, considering that most church members are still in the NIV era. Hopefully, it will gain more ground among the Chinese church as the standard in English translation.

Advantages of ESV: Scripture memorization, devotion and even for teaching purposes. I have embarked on an ambitious program to memorize the whole book of Ephesians, and naturally ESV is the version that I have decided to adopt.
